5 Simple Ways to Keep Your Faith at the Centre of Your Everyday Life

Thembeka··8 min read

I will be honest with you — there was a season in my life where my faith was mostly a Sunday thing.

I would go to church, feel inspired, sing with everything I had, and then Monday would arrive and life would take over. The busyness, the to-do lists, the pressures of the week — and somewhere in the middle of all of that, God would move to the background.

I am sure I am not the only one who has been there.

Over the last few years I have been on a journey to make my faith less of a Sunday event and more of an everyday reality. And I have learned that it does not require dramatic changes. It is the small, consistent habits that make the biggest difference.

Here are 5 things that have genuinely helped me:

1. Start your morning with 5 minutes of stillness before you reach for your phone

This one changed everything for me. Before I check my notifications, before I scroll, before the noise of the world rushes in — I give God the first 5 minutes of my day.

Sometimes I read a scripture. Sometimes I just sit in silence and acknowledge His presence. Sometimes I pray out loud in my kitchen while I am making tea. It does not have to be formal or fancy. It just has to be intentional.

Psalm 5:3 says — "In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly."

Starting your day with expectation rather than anxiety is a practice that genuinely shifts your perspective.

2. Wear your faith — literally

I know this might sound like I am just saying this because I run a clothing brand — but hear me out.

What we wear affects how we feel and how we carry ourselves. When I put on a piece that carries a scripture or a declaration of faith, it is a physical reminder that I am a child of God. It affects how I walk into a room. It affects how I respond when things get difficult.

And it opens conversations. You would be amazed how many beautiful interactions I have had simply because someone noticed the words on my hoodie or my tote bag and asked me about it. Those are divine appointments — moments to share the love of Jesus in the most natural way possible.

Wearing your faith is not about showing off. It is about carrying a reminder with you and being available for the conversations God places in your path.

3. Keep a small gratitude journal — even just 3 things a day

On the days when life feels hard and heavy, gratitude is the fastest way I know to shift my perspective back to God.

I keep a simple notebook on my bedside table. Every evening before I sleep I write down 3 things I am grateful for. They do not have to be big things. Some nights it is — I am grateful for a warm meal. I am grateful that I woke up this morning. I am grateful for the message a friend sent me today.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says — "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

All circumstances. Not just the good ones. Gratitude in the hard seasons is an act of faith — a declaration that you trust God even when you cannot see the full picture yet.

4. Find a community of believers who push you forward

Faith was never designed to be a solo journey.

I have seen the difference in my own life between seasons where I was connected to a community of believers and seasons where I was trying to do it alone. The difference is significant.

Community does not have to mean a large church with thousands of members. It can be a small cell group, a WhatsApp group of praying friends, a weekly coffee catch-up with one person who loves Jesus as much as you do.

Find your people. Pray with them. Be honest with them. Let them speak into your life. And do the same for them.

Proverbs 27:17 says — "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

You need people in your corner who will remind you of who God says you are — especially on the days when you forget.

5. Let your faith show in how you treat people

This is the one I come back to most often.

Everything I create through Mbeks Creations — every hoodie, every gift, every journal — is ultimately about this. Faith that stays inside the church walls and never touches how we treat the people around us is not the faith Jesus called us to.

The way you speak to the cashier at the supermarket. The patience you show when someone cuts you off in traffic. The kindness you extend to a colleague who is having a bad day. The message you send to check in on a friend you have been thinking about.

These are the moments where faith becomes real. Where the love of God flows through us and touches the people around us.

John 13:35 says — "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Love is the most powerful testimony we have. And it costs us nothing but intentionality.

A final word

Living a faith-centred life is not about being perfect. I am still learning. I still have days where I miss the mark completely. But what I have discovered is that the more I intentionally invite God into the small everyday moments, the more I find Him there — in the quiet mornings, in the difficult conversations, in the unexpected blessings, in the ordinary Tuesday afternoons.

He was always there. I just had to learn to look.

I hope these 5 simple practices encourage you wherever you are on your journey. And I would love to hear which one resonates most with you — feel free to send me a message on Instagram or WhatsApp. My DMs are always open ♡
